Luxcara awarded for "wind onshore deal of the year 2018"

Luxcara, one of the leading asset managers for renewable energy investments, has been recognized for the "wind onshore deal of the year 2018". The company proudly received the award at the first European Wind Investment Awards celebration in London on October 31^st.

The judges honored Luxcara’s achievements in the context of the wind project Bjerkreim. The project, collectively known as the Bjerkreim cluster, consists of three contiguous wind projects (Gravdal, Skinansfjellet and Eikeland-Steinsland) in southwest Norway. Seventy wind turbines of 4.2 MW will add more than 1,000,000 megawatt hours of new clean and renewable energy to the Nordic grid each year.

What is especially striking is the first-of-its-kind combination of a Power Purchase Agreement (“PPA“) with institutional financing through project bonds. Facebook and Luxcara have entered into a long-term PPA for 100% of the output and environmental (green) attributes. The wind projects provide Facebook’s data centers in Odense, Denmark and Luleå, Sweden with clean electricity. The financing was structured and initiated with MEAG. A three-digit million euro amount of projects bonds was privately placed, with European insurance companies as the ultimate investors.
